if days are graded on a days of 0-100% with 0 for complete shit and 100 for euphoria then today was definitely one of those shitty days. if the distribution of shitty day-ness is totally random then that would be an average of 3 complete shit days a year. so on the bright side today should be the last shitty day i'll ever experience this year. come to think of it, its been 5 months since I last blogged. but i just need to vent all my frustration so I don't lash out on people.

firstly it sucks when all your effort comes to naught. after hours of practising for OP, I dont know how and why, but my nerves got the better of me. and for the first time in my life i actually felt this really really weird feeling. like my whole body was locked and for some insane reason my arm was shaking really terribly. its nvr happened before,so im particularly annoyed.

and then i messed up jap. mayb its the lack of sleep so i cldnt catch what the teacher was saying for the dictation part of the VQ. it sounded like tamil or sth

lastly, pharm analysis prac test. instead of getting 4.1% I got 41.0% due to some careless error that still occured despite checking my work again and again. i dont know whether the penalty will be heavy but really it was sth which could have been rectified easily. theyll prob give a heavy penalty tho since ur collections have to be correct in pharmacy if not you might end up killing someone. sorry for the incoherent post.

on theflip side, im still aliveee :)

LA STRADA SET LUNCH

you can choose the 2 course (choose main and either appetizer/entree or dessert) or 3 course

menu. the 3 course set lunch is about 4 dollars more expensve than au petit salut. my dad actually prefers au petit salut cos of the ambience, but ive never eaten there before so i cant comment.

the yummiest bread ever. i especially love the bread with the tomato paste, its like pizza, but with a really crunchy and crispy, yet airy and fluffy base.i hope that made sense. the best part is that its free flow, but you have to be thick-skinned an d approach the staff for refills.

i had penne in olive oil with tuna and bell pepper for my appetizer. you can actually choose pasta as your main course OR appetizer. choosing it as an appetizer seems more worth it.

for the main course i had wagyu beef palliard. i think thats what its called, i dont really remember. it was really delicious though. it looks like minute steak but its really juicy and tender, although its thin.forgot to take a picture

dessert was rose and almond panna cotta. again i forgot to take a picture. im a sucker for anything rose, its just one of those words =)

sunshine burger at a little eatery at sommerville park condo in farrer drive. apparently they serve the best burgers in singapore, and yes they really ARE that good. better than similar places like botak jones. however its a little bit pricey at 18 dollars for a poolside ambience. I believe a burger at Hard Rock Cafe would cost the same amount, if not actually cheaper.

blueberry creme brulee, lychee martini and strawberry daiquiri @ angel'sshare (angels share or angels hare, whatever) at dempsey.

i wont ever go back there. bill came up to 50 dollars, service was almost non-existent. yes the food and drinks came very quickly, but it took us forever to get the attention of the wait staff to place our order in the first place. a night out at butter would have been more worth it for sure (this was a saturday btw)

food post! okay i just wanna gush about my new favourite restaurant sun with moon. i dont eat there a lot, but ive eaten there 3 or 4 times these past 2 weeks cos its near my mums work place and cos i have this 10% discount coupon thing. ive become a sakae sushi snob after their standards have dropped so low, which is why ive never eaten at pasta de waraku either.sushi tei and sun with moon is much better. although sun with moon is wayyyyy better than sushi tei. its really not tht ex, its about the same price! okay here goes

first up, the honey grilled pork belly with prawn caesar salad. its part of the summer grill promotion and the pork belly meltsss in your mouth! the caesar salad is really zingy and refreshing, like a lighter version of the caesar salad dressing which i spilled on the floor when we were cooking the other day.see its a good set meal you get everything on that tray for 15.80. including the green tea. yea, now they charge 0.90 sgd for free flow green tea.

tonkatsu don, this was okay. tonkichi(one of their outlets is at the top level of shawcentre/isetan) still does the best tonkatsu don

mini matcha parfait , this is my current fave dessert.i used t love the mango pudding parfait which had mango, AND mango pudding (but my mum says its not actually mango pudding), kiwi, blueberries, yoghurt, vanilla ice cream and cornflakes. but i decided to be adventurous and ordered this instead. it even has matcha whipped cream at the top.yummy mochi balls, green tea cake at the bottom and cornflakes! that waffle biscuit at the top is pretty delightful too. okay my description doesnt do it enough justice, but go try it when youre in a green tea mood. and at 5.80, almost the same as a double portion of gelatissimo downstairs i woud think, its a pretty good deal. btw, if im not wrong its only available from the lunch menu, which ends at 2.30pm

roll sushi set (yes thats what the menu said) its a pretty good deal, you get tamago, eel sushi, avocado mango sushi (im sure its actually called a much nicer name) , california maki. and you get to choose a side dish suh as mini beek steak (which is REALLY GOOD, as shown here), mini beef udon, mini hokkaido chasiew ramen, grilled salmon steak, broiled eel or an assortment of tempura. you even get chawan mushi! AND MATCHA ICE CREAM. i like matcha ice cream :) just cos green tea is healthy you're almost convinced MATCHA ICE CREAM will do just as much good to your body with all the catechins and antioxidants.

sukiyaki and tomato salad :)

Okay i survived wisdom tooth surgery. i decided to get the third molar on each side extracted at the same time so i wouldnt have to go through the whole agonising process of waiting and anxiety. the pain hasnt hit me yet, im still pretty anaesthasised. im just regaining feeling to my lips, u get this tingly feeling when you touch them.

i brought home one of my teeth as well. its kind of bloody now, so i wont post the picture on my blog just yet. its in 6 separate pieces! okay let me describe the process. first you get your gum numbed with topical gel. the gel makes you tingly, and numb of course. then u get injections to anaesthasise the inside i think. and finally, operation starts.

they cut your gum with a blade
you can feel them cutting, but you dont feel the pain
then i have no idea what happens next but you basically have 3 or 4 dental tools crammed in your mouth. one thing vibrates a lot, the other sprays water, and one of them is the normal suction thing.
finally the extraction! she uses pliers or something like that, and pulls each part of the tooth out. so you hear a cracking sound, and you can feel the pressure as well. excuse my very layman description :)

oh one of the risks that the dentist explained was a temporary numbness for 3 to 6 months in the lips.

my mum is being unsympathetic, my face is swollen and she says oh good, now you know how it feels not to be able to talk properly, so you should feel blessed for whatever you have, instead of complaining about trivial things like not being able to get a belly piercing. but on the bright side, a diet of udders ice cream for tonight! yummyyy :)

have been helping out at my mums school the past few days. they say incredibly cute things, but sometimes theyre just a handful. here are some anecdotes.

A: How old is your Dad
B: My Dad is 69 years old!
A: Oh, that means he is going to die first!

C: Cassie, D threw fish egg at me ( as in fish roe from california maki which D was having for lunch)

my eyes widen, and i quickly go back and confront D, I mean who throws fish egg at each other!

" D, WHy did you throw fish egg at C"

D: because he tried to put a plastic bag over my head.

i have to read storybooks too!

I read a book called " STephanie's ponytail" and a story about eskimos and monsters who lived in the cracks under the sea. the monsters are called Qallupilluit, now try pronouncing that 20 times throughout the course of the story.

Another book was called the Adventures of Harold and the Purple Crayon. FOr some reason, the kid who picked it found it highly amusing, although each of the 4 adventures were almost the same: basically, Harold wakes up, takes his purple crayon, draws a castle/enchanted garden/monster/king/queen/fairy/flowers, gets sleepy and tired and goes to bed.
after reading 2 adventures i decided to give the children a find wally like book instead. i think they liked it more =p

went to watch budak pantai perform at YMCA on friday after rushing down from the bizcom rag meeting.

prior to the concert, ive never heard of them before. but believe me, they are pretty awesome. and definitely worth watching. check out their website too, its very pretty.

yes i did get dragged down to watch them, watching choir like performances isnt really my thing. theyre basically an acapella group consisting of 5 men of differing ages prob 30-40? and from what i see on stage, diverse fashion sense as well.but they arent those normal a capella groups, not only do they mimic instruments using their voices (actually, im showing off my ignorance here arent i, i believe most a capella groups do this), they arrange all their songs in a particular order so it flows really fluidly and actually makes up a proper show.

for example, that night the theme was international night. so at the start they said they were going to sing songs from all over the world. and im like ohhhh okay. you would expect songs of different languages yes, but instead they sang mostly english songs with some twist such as singing a song with japanese accent and claimingit represents japan, singing a song about pedra branca and claiming its from msia. they had this pretty funny song called why do men have nipples, (youtube that) and they ended this song with what they called the bulgarian national song "ken lee". they even distributed a postcard with the lyrics printed on it. unfortunately i didnt get the joke then (so everyone around me was laughing and i had no idea why) only when my friend wikied it himself did we get it!

Ken Lee ("Can't live") is a garbled interpretation of the song Without You, performed by Valentina Hasan (Bulgarian: Валентина Хасан), a contestant auditioning for the Bulgarian show Music Idol in February 2008.

(from wiki)

Just prior to her audition for Music Idol (the Bulgarian version of the Idol Series) Hasan informed the judges she intended to perform "the Mariah Carey song 'Ken Lee,'". When she was corrected that the song was called "Without You," Hasan said 'No. It could be, I am not sure'. In the fan montages circulating in the internet, her performance was intercut with footage of an actual performance by Mariah Carey for ironic comparison. When she was asked what language was the song, she replied firmly that it was 'English' which she doesn't speak well.

Although she did not continue to the next round of the competition, a video of her performance was soon posted on the web where it became popular in Bulgaria and abroad. Hasan's extremely broken English, coupled with her yet undeveloped singing abilities, combined to great comic effect, and garnered the video over four million viewings in its first month on the video sharing website Youtube.

have been helpin out at my mums school these few days. it helps me understand how exhausting her job is.

due to very very bad time management, our scheduled 7pm dinner got postponed to 8pm and was finally served at the insanely late hour of 12 midnight.

first up, the veal ravioli. the recipe called for wanton skins. i insisted we should get proper skins from lasagne sheets, cos the wantons would probably end up being translucent after boiling. but we couldnt find any fresh ones so we ended up using wanton skins. well the recipe was from the internet, quote from the geog textbook :'space shrinking technology' so american wanton skins are probably a lot thicker than chinese wanton skins in singapore, which is probably why our result was vastly different. there you go! doesnt look the nicest here, its a bit like veal lasagne. plus the skins kept splitting cos they stuck to each other, since we were doing mass cooking (due to lack of time) and we didnt put olive oil either. nonetheless it was still yummy! the tomato sauce especially!

caesar salad! we did the dressing from scratch! and it was soooo good! :) unfortunately, while blending the sauces in the mini food processor, i ended up spilling two thirds of the creamy dressing on the floor :( so we had to stinge a bit on the dressing.

octopus and parsley salad. my favourite dish, i loved the tako. we got this recipe from harumi's japanese cooking. we've had this book in the house for ages but we've not touched it once, until today.

the table, see im putting my im a pharmacist mug to good use!

the very messy kitchen.

dessert was flourless chocolate cake. its pretty amazing how one can whip up a cake with just chocolate, cocoa powder, eggs, butter and sugar! this was pretty divine, although it doesnt look that fantastic cos there isnt any icing or ice cream on it. or maraschino cherries, whipped cream etc etc. superbly richhh and yes, i would think its very fattening.

to balance the pigging out, ive joined a gym! :) its going to be my new hang out.

its only at the club21 sale where you can get a dkny top priced at 239 bucks at 30 dollars :)))

the bus ride on the 190 to town today was pretty interesting.

im still mourning the loss of my ipod. and i have another casualty of technology. just yesterday i was listening to the fm radio with the earphone set connected to my phone. then michelle called to ask where i was, and cos im not used to talking to thin air, its more comforting to talk to something thats physically there, and in my struggle to unplug the headset from the phone, the usb adapter miraculously dismantled itself. so its not in two halves, one half has gold pins sticking out. i can connect it back, but just now when i went jogging, music was only being transmitted to the right ear piece and it kept disconnecting. so in the end i gave up.

so with no music to keep me company on the journey, i turned to the next best thing to do on a long bus ride. people watch! okay, i could have slept but im terrified of missing my stop. yea, voyeuristic tedencies, but everyone has them.

target: this uncle sitting in front of me

he was talking very loudly on the phone about stocks and letting the whole bus hear his conversation about how one should not be tricked by unscrupulous businessmen.
then he started scrolling through his messages from this person named Ros, whom Im assuming is a lady.

first message: darling, have you received my address yet?
second message: darling i miss you very much... (some other mushy words) I LOVE YOU

still okay, then the third message! basically if there was a text version of phone sex, this is it. i wont describe in detail cos its puke-inducing but the keywords (quote from text) were cock hard pussy wet scream. so you can figure that out for yourself huh. ee yew.
